Elaboration
Living alone independently there is plenty of opportunity to design ones home according to individual preferences. Nevertheless one may consider the following.
Make sure to include ample electrical outlets in all spaces to accommodate portable task lighting needs and to avoid outlet overloading and prevent long electrical cords. (after Ahrentzen & Steele)
It is advisable to provide dimmers for most light sources to allow flexible light levels.

Often, but not always one should reckon with problems with orientation and short-term memory, so it’s advisable to install power-outlets at logical and easily findable places, such as around the kitchen sink and where electronic equipment and floor lamps are located.
In that case mount wall switches and dimmers at a standard height and also consistently at ‘the same’ spot; in case of bathrooms, toilets and closets preferably on the outside.
Switches and dimmers may be marked through color contrast, for instance a low tonal value around the switch while the switch itself has a bright and/or fluorescent color.
